Alexis' AG Girls Diary

                                                                             September 6 2005

Today the girls went back to school.
Juliana is upset because she has to wear a uniform.  She, the girl who loves all things pink and girly, has to wear a plain blue checked dress every day.  She will manage she supposes, but only because she knows she will be getting a good education, learn Hebrew, and will get the right Jewish holidays.  She was pleased however to be able to take her trendy new computer and bag to school.  She has informed her mother that she will be changing "RIGHT AFTER SCHOOL!"
Marisol had to be dressed up to go ashore and pick up her first correspondence packet.  She also had to have her picture taken for a card that will have a special code number to enter into her computer, so she can access the online school.  She was NOT happy, but her parents decided that they needed some structure added to their life.  The only thing that makes it somewhat bearable is the fact that Adrigo has to do school also.
Emmaline was her usual self.  Completely oblivious to fashion.  Dressed so she could go to the barn right after school.  Her parents agreed to lease a horse this fall, but to cut back on cost,  Emmaline will go after school to muck out the stall, feed Pyrrhus, and give him a bit of exercise.  It will mean a little bit of biking every day, but for her it is TOTALLY worth it.  She is very pleased to be able to take advanced science this year!
Jade goes to a prestigious private school.  This week is orientation week, and next week is out-week, so she doesn't have to wear her uniform until after out-week.  She was a little upset, because she loves her short, little, plaid skirt (or jumper), her pretty, white blouse, her knee-high, grey socks, and her black shoes with the highest heel and the most shine the school allows.  Her parents told her that she should enjoy wearing what she wants while she can, because soon enough she will be sick of her uniform.  She doesn't know if she believes them though.
Right after school, Juliana, Emmaline, and Jade held an emergency Neighbour Girls Club Meeting to talk about their separate school experiences.  Since Jade and Juliana were both new to their schools, they had no friends there.  Emmaline had always been a loner, so she didn't really have good school friends either.  There were a few kids that were her friends, but they had only been to her house a few times.  And one of them had moved.  So that afternoon the NGC met together to commiserate about school.  Juliana loved her school even if she didn't like the uniform, but she said that she liked having classes that focused on her religion.  Jade liked the look of her new school, and she says that she gets to skip a grade of math which thrills her because she was always advanced in math.  Emmaline couldn't think much about her school, because she was so preoccupied with her horse.  But the girls did manage to find out that she got a locker (which she loves having!) and of course her exciting science news.
Marisol is a different story.  When she got back to her boat with her grey duffel bag bulging with papers,  she immediately logged onto the online school.  WELCOME TO CORRESPONDENCE SCHOOL  it said.  She snorted with disgust, she did NOT want to start school, and no amount of welcome could change this fact!  She entered her code carefully.  Once every thing was filled out she was able to be on a special message board for students, in online classrooms, and  she could Ask-A-Teacher-A-Question.  She took a quick guided online tour, and logged out for the day.  Don't Forget To Do Your Home Work!  See you tomorrow!  The computer said.  She sighed, this school year could be her longest ever!

Jade's piano lessons started again.  She is starting a new book, which is always exciting.  The new book is called the Royal Conservatory of Music Grade 6.  Jade knows it will be harder, but she is ready for the challenge.  During the summer her teacher, Mrs. Levesque, moved her teaching location.  She used to teach out of her home.  Now she has moved to a spiffy new studio.  Mrs. Levesque also got a new piano this year.  It is electric, and has all these different modes.  Mrs. Levesque let Jade play around on it when her lesson was over.  Jade decided to count the number of pianos Mrs. Levesque has.  Here is her tally:  One grand piano for concerts only, one baby grand for lessons, one upright for lessons or duets, an organ, and now the electric piano.

Today Juliana got a parcel from her grand-parents in Russia.  Enclosed was a HUGE bag of yummy Russian candy and a set of Russian dolls.  It also had a book about a famous Russian  Ballerina written in Russian for Juliana to read.  Even though she is not fluent in Russian this book looks like she should manage.  To top it all off, her ballet lessons started again today.  It was a great class, and Juliana was itching to dance longer.  She has arranged to dance Mondays, Tuesday mornings, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.  For this year she got moved to second highest class.  Which means that every second Sunday afternoon, she will teach a beginner's ballet class.  She got a new outfit, because she grew over the summer.  It is all pink (which she loves). She sewed the leotard herself, and the skirt was a surprise from her mother and father though.  To save money, she cut the legs off her old tights, so now she gets to wear leg warmers!  The shoes won't last long, because she is dancing so much this year. They will wear out very fast.

Juliana stretches with Coconut as she warms up.

Emmaline's first official riding lesson was today.  Because she boards Pyrrhus there it is not her first time at the stable this year, only her first lesson.  This year she got a new teacher.  Gone was Colby, now she had Catherine.  She was much nicer, and she was not has weird as Colby had been.  Emmaline could tell she would like riding this year much better.  Not only because of her teacher switch, but also because she now owned her own horse. She got to do a complicated jumping course that involved 6 jumps.  One of which was a wall.  After that she went on a trail ride.  Around her stable, which borders a lake, there is a complex trail system.  If you board your horse there, you have free access to them.  It was very relaxing for Emmy, and she was determined to go on little rides with Pyrrhus more often.

Today, after snow was predicted, the Neighbours Girl Club rushed out to buy toboggans.  They decided to all get matching blue saucers.  They had to go to two stores because the first store didn't have any in stock.  They were worried that there would be no sleds left anywhere.  Normally the girls wait until it snows and then remember that they have no sleds, and then (of course) all the stores are sold out.  Unfortunately for them, snow is no longer foretasted.  But the girls remain hopeful.

Finally after a long hiatus the girls are back!  The computer they were using had some problems, and they were unable to update this page for quite a while.  But know that's all fixed up, and they should be able to keep this page recent.
Their biggest news is that Violet, the traveling doll, is at their house right now!  They are having a lot of fun showing her the sights of the city.
Also, they got a new sister called Amber Kristina.  She is very nice, the daughter of two vets, and has quite a story.  She loves chimpanzee's, and her mother study them in Africa when she was younger.  She still goes back every once in a while, but Amber has never been.  That's actually how her mom meet her dad.  He was the village vet, and one day one of the chimps was sick, and she called him in to look at it.  After a while, they got married, and moved back home.
Other than that, life is relatively normal.

Today was the first day of spring.  All the girls are excited that the weather is getting warmer.  They are starting to think of planting flowers, and just doing general gardening.
Jade is starting the semester in which she learns Mandarin.  She's been looking forward to it all year.  She knows a little, but not much.  Her cousin is also taking it, although not in the same city.  They are hoping that soon they will be able to write their letters in Mandarin.
Juliana and her ballet troupe are starting work on their summer ballet production.  The are putting on A Midsummer's Night Dream.  Juliana as of yet is unsure of her role, but is expected to learn tomorrow morning at her early lesson.
Emmaline is still working away at her riding.  Today she went for a trail ride.  It was beautiful and sunny, and she really enjoyed it.  Soon she will be allowed to turn her horse out in the main field, and ride in the outdoor ring.  During winter, because it is so wet and rainy, she only rides indoors.
Amber is kept busy going on farm calls with her parents.  So far she's visited a five lambs, three calves, and two foals.  And they are expecting to have to go to a goat farm within the next few days.
Marisol doesn't really realize spring is coming at all!  Right now she is near Cuba, studying bottle-nosed dolphins.  But soon they are expected to leave that area and go to Belize.  Marisol is hoping she will be able to visit her friend Jess.
And Tori, is well, just being herself.  Nothing that new there.

In honor of World Poetry Day, each of the girls shared a poem that they have written.

   When on a horse,
you are free as a bird,
    Approaching each jump,
like a hawk does it's prey.
    The rider bobbing,
    like a seagull riding waves.
         Emmaline

     Heavy laden trees,
    White and pink flowers drooping,
     From mossy branches.
            Jade

      Ballet dancers
      stand en pointe,
      in a lonely studio,
      whenever they can,
      striving for perfection.
            Juliana

      Dolphins,
      sleek, graceful,
      swimming, leaping, playing
      my ocean play-mate,
      porpoise.
           Marisol

     Flags proudly fly,
     As my father goes by,
     In the shadows I wait,
     My turn will come.
            Tori

      Chimpanzee's chattering,
      Savanna grass swaying,
      Waterfalls tinkling,
      Market bustling,
      My homeland calling.

Today Jade went to Chinatown!  She had a lot of fun.  She got some neat little things including a brocade covered journal.  She also found a Chinese style hat.  Of course she bought it right away.

Here are her two favourite pictures.  The one on the left is just a picture from the shop she went into, and one the right she is trying on the neat little hats!

Violet left today.  All the girls miss her,  but they know she will have fun at her next stop.  Still it was hard to say good-bye to her.
Emmaline redecorated her room!  She got a new bulletin board, and added a few posters to her wall.  Now Jade wants a bulletin board for her new room.  Out of all the girls only Tori and Jade don't have bulletin boards!  But for now,  Jade is somewhat appeased because she just got her own room!

The girls made a new webpage today.  They would love it if you would go check it out!  Click here for the girls new site!

Finally the girls have gotten around to updating this diary!  Here is the album of Violet's stay here!  They hope that you like looking at it, as they had a lot of fun with her!

The girls are all getting ready to take part in the big Easter Parade.  Most of them are all ready.  Only Amber needs to find a dress.  Once the pictures are taken, they will put the link to the album here.
Juliana of course doesn't celebrate Easter, she celebrates Passover.  So yesterday her and her family went over to her grandparents. (Not the ones in Russia!)  She had a great time, but is very tired now.

Here is a link to the Easter Parade album.  The girl's had a lot of fun dressing up, posing for pictures, and organizing the album!  Click here to view the album.  Hope you enjoy!
